Note: store your Granulite Granular Salt pallet in a dry place such as a garage, shed or covered storage area. The bags are moisture resistant but prolonged exposure to damp conditions can cause granules to bond together, which slows dissolution inside the softener. Granulite works with all granular salt water softeners on the UK market, and is also suitable for dishwashers that require granular salt. It is not designed for tablet salt or block salt systems, those models require a different format. Check your softener manual if you are unsure which type your unit takes.
Granulite is made by crushing and compacting PDV salt into firm 2 to 6mm granules, while traditional granular salts consist of loose crystalline beads. The compacted structure means less dust when pouring, a more consistent granule size, and slower more controlled dissolution inside the brine tank.
Both contain 1000kg of Granulite Granular Salt at similar prices, the difference is bag size. Go for 100 x 10kg if you find heavier bags a struggle or want more people in the household to be able to top up. Choose 40 x 25kg if you prefer fewer trips to the softener and don't mind the weight.
PDV stands for Pure Dried Vacuum salt, a manufacturing process where brine is evaporated under reduced pressure to remove impurities and produce exceptionally pure salt crystals. The result is high purity sodium chloride that dissolves cleanly and protects the internals of your softener.
BS EN 973: 2009 is the British and European standard for chemicals used in the treatment of water intended for human consumption. Granulite meets this standard, which means the salt has been tested and verified safe for use in water softening systems that supply drinking water.
A 1000kg pallet typically lasts a family of four around 12 months in a moderately hard water area. Heavy users in very hard water regions may go through it in 9 to 10 months, lighter households can stretch a pallet to 15 months or more.
