Why choose Salt Giant
Salt Giant is the leading nationwide supplier of salt for homeowners and businesses. The salt can be used for the entrance to your home, the pavement, the patio in your garden, the car park, or a business park. Prevent dangerous slips and falls that can have serious consequences. Always keep a small supply of rock salt on hand. Don’t wait until the last minute to buy our grit salt. That way, you’ll never be caught off guard by harsh winter weather and you’ll never miss out.
We keep all salt products in stock, so we can deliver them quickly. You can choose whether to view prices inclusive or exclusive of VAT using the VAT switcher at the top of the website. During the ordering process, you can select your preferred delivery date.
Most salt products are delivered in convenient 25-kilogram bags. This way, you don’t have to deal with large bulk bags or loose salt. Of course, it is possible to order in bulk; please contact us via the contact page or give us a call.
The highest quality salt
The salt we sell consists of more than 99.9% sodium chloride (NaCl). We work with the world’s largest salt producers. These producers are based in Belgium and the Netherlands. Salt extraction can be divided into three categories:
Vacuum salt: This is the purest type of salt. It is extracted from underground salt deposits and pumped to the surface. The brine solution is purified, and the water is evaporated under vacuum. Vacuum salt has a very fine grain.
Rock salt: This is mined from salt mines and has a slightly coarser grain than vacuum salt.
Sea salt: The name says it all: this salt is extracted from seawater. Sea salt has a coarse grain and is less pure than vacuum salt.
Vacuum salt is therefore the purest and contains no metals or other impurities. This is an advantage when making brine, as no sediment remains when the salt dissolves.
Rock salt and grit salt for winter
Water has a natural freezing point of 0 degrees. When you add rock salt (NaCl) to water (brine), the freezing point of the water is lowered. Fine-grained grit salt has the advantage of dissolving quickly in water, so it works very fast. With coarse-grained salt, it takes a little longer to dissolve in water, so it works more slowly but lasts longer. If you need a very fine grain, choose vacuum salt. If you prefer a coarser grain, you’re better off choosing rock salt.
In addition to sodium chloride, calcium chloride or urea can also be used to prevent icy conditions. Both substances are natural de-icing agents and are available in the form of de-icing granules. Among other things, these granules are less corrosive and less harmful to wildlife and materials than de-icing salt, and they remain effective for longer, even at extremely low temperatures.
Water softener salt
Hard water leaves limescale in your kettle, boiler and dishwasher, which shortens the life of your appliances. Water softener salt keeps your softener working, so you get soft water throughout the house and far less scale to deal with. We stock it in every common format: tablet salt for most cabinet softeners, granular salt for units that need a finer grain, and block salt for compact twin-block systems. Trusted brands like Aquasol and Granulite, delivered in 25kg bags or by the pallet.
Pool salt
If you run a saltwater pool or hot tub, pool salt keeps the water clean, clear and gentle on your skin. Your chlorinator turns the dissolved salt into chlorine on demand, so you get steady sanitation without harsh chemicals or that strong chlorine smell. Our pool salt is more than 99.9% pure, so it protects your chlorinator and leaves no residue behind.
Should I spread salt or granules?
This depends on the application. Rock salt is ideal for roads and car parks; it is inexpensive and works very well on pavers and asphalt. Urea or calcium granules are more expensive and therefore less suitable for treating large areas. De-icing granules are effective at lower temperatures. Urea granules do not corrode, and calcium granules corrode very little. Granules are widely used on ships, special paving, and roofs.
In addition to road salt and de-icing granules, we also offer water softening salt for treating tap water. Softened water helps extend the lifespan of household appliances. We’re also your go-to partner for pool salt and industrial-grade salt. If you have any questions, feel free to chat, call, or WhatsApp our salt specialists.
